But on trimless, also ask for the photograph of the face-to-return joint. Any fabricator quoting trimless should be able to produce one, and if we could not, you should not be buying it from us.

Opening on a fixed date? Check it before you design
Trimless does not take longer to build than standard front-lit; the tolerance changes, not the calendar. What moves the date is the permit, and that is set by your municipality.

Four things to know about trimless
Including a question worth asking every supplier who quotes it.
What you are actually paying for
On a standard front-lit letter, look closely and you see a thin border where the face meets the sides: the trim cap. Trimless removes it, so the acrylic sits flush inside an internal lip in the return. The difference is small on paper and considerable in person. A trimless letter looks machined; a standard one looks assembled.
It has a size window
Trade guidance puts trimless at its best between roughly 6 and 28 inches tall, and advises against it much above 48 inches without additional structural support. Very small letters lose the effect because there is no room for the internal lip; very large ones need reinforcement the seamless face was never designed to carry.
Ask to see the joint before you buy
Trimless is the construction where the gap between a careful fabricator and a cheap one shows up most obviously, because there is no trim cap hiding the seam. Ask any supplier for a close-up photograph of the face-to-return joint on a sign they have actually built. If they cannot produce one, they probably should not be quoting you trimless.
When it is worth the premium
Fashion, luxury, hospitality and any brand whose identity depends on looking precisely made. If the sign is read from a moving car, nobody will ever see the detail you paid for, and standard front-lit does the same job for less. Trimless earns its money at close range.
